  • Durham Region appoints new Commissioner of Finance

    Whitby, Ontario – Durham Regional Council has confirmed the appointment of Nicole Pincombe to the position of Commissioner of Finance/Treasurer for The Regional Municipality of Durham, effective December 1, 2025.

    “We are pleased to appoint Nicole Pincombe to this strategic senior position—a role responsible for financial management and overall fiscal accountability,” said Elaine Baxter-Trahair, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

    Most of us don’t think twice about what happens to the waste that gets flushed down the toilet—we flush it and forget it, but as Chief Maintenance Operator, Kurt thinks about it every day. For over 20 years, Kurt has been working at Duffin Creek Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) in Pickering making sure the waste in your flush doesn’t end up in the lake.

  • Fare-free transit for Canadian Armed Forces members

    Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region Transit (DRT), in partnership with the Region of Durham, is proud to offer a limited-time fare incentive for Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members, reservists and veterans.

    To qualify for fare-free travel, eligible individuals must present one of the following:

    • Veteran’s Service Card (NDI 75)
    • Canadian Forces Identification Card (NDI 20)
    • CFOne Card
    • Temporary National Defence Identification Card (NDI 10) or
    • Appear in uniform or wearing service medals

    When: From October 31.

  • Durham Region celebrates official opening of the Seaton Paramedic Response Station

    Whitby, Ontario – Today, the Region of Durham and Region of Durham Paramedic Services (RDPS) celebrated the official opening of the new Seaton Paramedic Response Station and Training Facility in Pickering. This new station will provide improved service and access to emergency services for residents of the north Ajax and Pickering communities in Durham Region.

  • Upcoming lane restrictions on Bayly Street in Pickering

    Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of lane restrictions on Bayly Street (Regional Road 22) in the City of Pickering.

  • Regional service impacts in observance of Remembrance Day

    Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of impacts to Regional programs and services on November 11 in observance of Remembrance Day.

    When and Where: On Tuesday, November 11, the following programs and/or services will be impacted:

    • Durham Regional Headquarters in Whitby will be closed, including provincial courts and offices, Ontario Works Office and the Child Care and Early Years Division Office.
  • Lane restrictions for Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57) reconstruction

    Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is advising residents of upcoming lane restrictions on Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57) from Highway 401 to King Street West (Regional Highway 2) in the Municipality of Clarington, as part of the reconstruction project. 

    When: The Region’s contractor, KAPP Infrastructure Ltd.

  • New pedestrian crossover at Cameron Street West and Ann Street in Cannington

    Whitby, Ontario – In support of Durham Vision Zero, a strategic road safety action plan, the Region of Durham has added a pedestrian crossover at the intersection of Cameron Street West (Regional Road 12) and Ann Street in the Township of Brock’s community of Cannington.

    When: The pedestrian crossover signs and markings were installed on October 22.

  • Statement from the Region of Durham on Chair Henry’s brief medical leave

    The following statement is being issued by the Region of Durham regarding the medical leave of John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer: 

    "Durham Regional Chair and CEO John Henry is taking a brief medical leave. 

    During this time, Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter will chair Regional Council and Committee of the Whole meetings, as per the guidelines within the Acting Regional Chair By-law #59-2022.
