    DRIFF turns 10 with a lineup worth celebrating

    The Durham Region International Film Festival (DRIFF) celebrates a decade of film and storytelling with a new lineup of Canadian and international films and special events at venues across the region.

    There’s more to experience than what’s on screen at DRIFF’s 10th anniversary celebration from October 22 to 24.

    Upcoming lane restrictions on Peter Matthews Drive in Pickering

    Upcoming lane restrictions from October 12 to November 20 on Peter Matthews Drive, from just south of Burkholder Drive to Alexander Knox Road, in the City of Pickering. Lane restrictions will be in place to safely allow for catch basin and maintenance hole adjustments, as well as surface asphalt placement, in support of new development. One lane will remain open at all times with traffic control personnel in place to direct traffic.

    Upcoming lane restrictions on Ritson Road North in Oshawa

    Upcoming lane restrictions from October 12 to November 20 on Ritson Road North, between Conlin Road East and Britannia Road East, in the City of Oshawa. Lane restrictions will be in place to safely construct a temporary asphalt sidewalk.

    Families are invited to learn about the Durham York Energy Centre at free PA Day Event

    Families are invited to explore how we’re transforming household waste into valuable resources by dropping in to our free, engaging event at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) in Courtice on Monday, October 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All children must be accompanied by an adult. No pre-registration is required. 

  • Regional service impacts in observance of Thanksgiving Day

    The Region of Durham is advising residents of impacts to Regional programs and services in observance of Thanksgiving Day.

    Lane restrictions on Bowmanville Avenue, Durham Regional Highway 2 and Stevens Road in Clarington

    Durham Region is advising residents of ongoing lane restrictions on Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57), Durham Regional Highway 2 and Stevens Road in the Municipality of Clarington until October 31.

    Lake Ridge Road reconstruction and rehabilitation in Brock and Uxbridge

    Lane restrictions will be in place on Lake Ridge Road (Regional Road 23) in the Townships of Brock and Uxbridge from October 5, 2026, to July 2027 to support road reconstruction and rehabilitation work. Construction will pause for the winter from December 1, 2026, to May 1, 2027. Motorists are asked to use caution near work zones and watch for construction crews, cyclists and pedestrians.

    Lane restrictions on Consumers Drive and 401 West off-ramp closure in Whitby

    Durham Region is advising residents of lane restrictions on Consumers Drive and a 401 West off-ramp closure at Brock Street in the Town of Whitby. Ongoing daytime work for curb and sidewalk replacement until October 15. Overnight paving work from October 15 to 31. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.

    It’s Circular Economy Month in Durham Region

    On behalf of The Regional Municipality of Durham’s Works Committee, John Henry, Regional Chair and CEO, has proclaimed the month of October as Circular Economy Month in Durham Region. A circular economy is a model that retains and recovers as much value as possible from resources by reusing, repairing, refurbishing, remanufacturing or repurposing products and materials to maximize their value before they are recycled or thrown out.

    Walking together in truth, understanding and reconciliation

    National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time to remember the children who never returned home from residential schools and acknowledge the survivors, families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of these policies and institutions. Durham Region encourages residents to reflect on our shared history and the ongoing journey toward reconciliation, respect and inclusion.
