Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit construction update: Single lane restrictions on Kingston Road in Ajax from Rotherglen Road to Galea Drive
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham is continuing construction for the Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit (DSBRT) project on Kingston Road (Regional Highway 2) from Rotherglen Road to Galea Drive in the Town of Ajax.
Beginning on August 24, 2026, temporary lane reductions will be implemented along the Kingston Road corridor to facilitate construction of the DSBRT station foundations.
Eastbound traffic at Salem Road (Regional Road 41) will be reduced to a single lane, with similar lane reductions progressing to Harwood Avenue, Chapman Drive/Ritchie Avenue, and Westney Road (Regional Road 31) as construction advances. Lane reductions are expected to remain in place until the end of 2026, with impacts at each location anticipated to last approximately four to six weeks before traffic is restored to two lanes. Every effort will be made to minimize disruptions and maintain traffic flow throughout construction.
When: Beginning August 24, 2026, single lane restrictions will be implemented in stages until the end of 2026. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.
Where: Intersections of Kingston Road and Salem Road, Harwood Avenue, Chapman Drive/Ritchie Avenue, and Westney Road.
Why: To accommodate centre median bus rapid transit station construction as part of the DSBRT project.
Note: This project is partially funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP).
Bus routes, bus stops, sidewalks and businesses will remain open during regular operating hours for the duration of construction. For more information, visit durham.ca/BRTRotherglenToHarwood and durham.ca/BRTHarwoodtoGalea.
